hehe yea that fight was fun, can't really see it in the log but me and grisnat were fleeing from tlaloc and tardeer from fight we lost with them at stonedoor, and we stopped ruin to fight, grisnat went to get me key.

i had no spells up at all and was at like warm mana, trying to harm tlaloc when grisnat bashed him =p

Yeah, in a recent fight vs Nartum as well as this one I realized I was at a complete disadvantage because of link. You walked out of 10-15 hits before Awmg died from me, and a good 10 more after he died. Eventually I got sick of thinking I was landing killing blow, only to see ' they are not here ' message, or whatever it is. I tried to unlock door and walk out and then walk in (to get Tardeer out, and so that maybe you would hold still, but I had no chance at all to really open door. Oh well - we shoulda just went warrens instead of trying to fight in ruin. I had thought you guys would take a bit longer to arrive - both Awmg and I were low, and I entered ruin on fainting mps, about 100hp down, Awmg was even lower of course.

In the end it was a fun fight though, great andrenaline buzz to be sure... goddamn I thought I had you!

This is why Tlaloc was smart enough to turn sneak OFF..see, it's not only about link but also many small things like this that makes the difference. And i dont really get how you couldn't open the door, unl door;open door+North, since it's prespammed commands his 20ms spamclosing wont help.

But let me guess, you dont have a well configured client so you can't send the 'unl door;open door+North' instantly without a shitload of typing, right?
I just love to see americans or australians (Yes, mostly these people)whine about link when they have a client that is configured like shit...how the hell do you expect to be as fast as someone else when you have to press 4 times as many keys as him?! It's NOT in the link, not half as much as having proper hotkeys.

Actually with Grisnat having sneak delay typing unl door;open door+north, there is a good chance Tardeer would've been able to close it before he went north ... or atleast hit him when he left his hiding place.
But yes, turning sneak off and just hit him with pierce... but then again puke scouts with db sapphire rings are too overpowered :P Doubtful Grisnat would be able to hit through it, I know my scout couldn't without parrysplit on Tatanka.

Well if you play on a 400ms link it might have an impact, but lower than that and a client is way more important for speed...most 20ms player would also be extremely slow without proper aliases. (I've played like this from work for some time now, it sucks :P)

Mume accept at max 4 commands per secs, so there is a 250 ms delay between them. Spam close versus unlock open north, means close will happen between the open an north. Only way to bypass it is to wait spam close fail, or count on wimpy to make you flee right after your open went through, since that may happen without the 250ms delay minimum between 2 commands.

I thought Razoor had played enough to know this, but well..
It's easier to not know it when you play on 20 ms against 300 ms link, you get bad ideas of how it works...

Storeport + overkill = warlord! Easy equation. A lot of times the suicider solo guys have a lot more fun though, depends on why you are playing. Honestly though, idea how link works, in general I run around 175 mls, I regularly get passed while spamming dirs by swedes...shouldn't happen with theory of spamming makes you super fast. Not to mention swedes walking out of rooms with 3 Americans spam closing + hitting (2 closing 1 hitting?) Anyway, not complaining at all, just think its funny when swedes think link doesn't affect anything.
P.S. mostly typing so much because I'm freaking BORED out of my skull, so post some more logs or something.

I dont follow Krax, and i dont agree either. You're right about the 250ms deal (supposedly), but i'm not so sure about the rest. You're basically saying it's impossible to walk out when someone is spamclosing since logically the closers command should come after my opening command, but this is obviously not true. I've had people walk out while i'm practically sitting on the close button, so while 'common sense' or 'mume physics' might make it impossible to walk out on someone spamclosing..in reality it's not. And as you say i've played enough to know this ;)

No offence but Euros have no idea how tough Aussies do it with our link. Yes our prespam is the same speed - ie 250ms between commands, but the fact remains that when you push the button you move or hit or whatever the command was INSTANTLY. I can push hit and have enemies walk out then in and then have my command go through...Euros will always hav an extra .3s to react and a lot of the time that is crucial.

Razoor: Yeah, I should have turned sneak off to avoid delay, but its really not THAT much faster (at least that I can notice). In addition, my client isn't THAT bad... I have fourkey aliases (ie: unln) for unlock exit (dir); open exit (dir) - north in this case. Pretty crappy I guess though, compared to door hotkeys. Either way, better link = Tlaloc long dead, and thats the truth, plain and simple - unless he decided to use rock of course. Maybe I'll try to reprogram client this autumn and see if I can start playing again - for now I'm just an ER-wanker trying to catch up on a bit of the old buzz.

well, the truth is link makes a big difference, but only in certain situations.

if you fight out in the open, does link matter? no not really, sure someone is quicker then you but generally its easy to get away, and chasing usually involves guessing dirs or tracking, neither of which link affects 'too much'.

When you fight indoors with zero move delay and there is doors around, link becomes crazy.

Of course personally I usually enjoy the zero move delay areas and door fights the most anyways, but occassionally you come across situations like this where link difference becomes way too obvious =)

No whine at all, tlaloc is obviously very skilled as well, but I think me and grisnat both felt like taking our hands off the keyboard and watching us die a few times, because it felt like pressing buttons was pointless ;)

Well i got some problems with the unl exit;open exit commands myself since i have to move right hand from numpad and press O+enter, it feels extremely slow compared to doing everything else without any handmovement...i'll probably reconfigure it once MUME is up and bind it to some key :)

Was shopping new keyboard today, thought about buying a Logitech G-15 with 18 extra buttons on the left side...purely for MUME-aliases and hotkeys, but they didn't have it in stock :(

Well my biggest point is simply that at least 80% of the linkwhiners whine about their link while having a shitty client...if you have a nicely set up client, then the linkadvantage is tiny until you reach the 400+ms level. Having to hit 'enter' to hit your target is completely ridiculous, dont understand how you get kills while playing like that...and OF COURSE people will walk out of the hits if you're using such a slow way of hitting :)

Also getting hotkeys for enable/disable gacactions are needed!

Just to clarify: I don't think I have a bad link, it is stable, quite fast for American link. Having said that, there really is not a comparison against a swede link, its just 5x faster. Yes, in open I don't have problems getting away, but you better believe in bottlenecks I am totally screwed, usually takes either a major screw up on swede part, or me being absolutely lucky to make it out of a bottleneck. As far as opening doors + dir, I have found it is better to cha wimpy 5000, and spam open exit, since then the game can flee for me, and I don't have to worry about moving hands to bindings, using aliases, etc, but to each his own.

well, I didn't think I have so slow of link. I have pretty steady 170ms link, with usually no freezes.

However, I did visit luke last summer, and I did play from cz to see the difference, and that drastically changed my opinion.

To anyone who has not played from both locations, comparing ping numbers is not a meaningful. The difference is extreme. I told luke a few times i was suprised how crazy the difference is, expecting it to be fast but not 'that' fast.

But its a game, some people will have advantage so that's ok. Personally I enjoy having the slower link, since it makes the game that much more enjoyable when one of you dies hehe =)

When you come across situations like this though, you can basically just laugh hehe. [again obviously tlaloc did well, i fakked up a lot, etc.. but linkwise the fight was humorous to 'watch' =)]

I tried to play with a numpad hotkey setup but I had such a hard time adjusting my playstyle. Maybe I do talk too much but half of the fights I do is talking to my groupmates since I usually am the leader of a group.

Of course, I've had many fights like this (2 vs 2 or 1 vs 2 or something like that) and in that case I of course don't need to talk to others but just have to be fast and that is when my client setup sucks badly. I might have to setup some good client and start to learn how to play with hotkeys instead :)
