Report him.
Its Illegal.
Was told this happens frequently lately ?
I would nuke those accounts and ban them, though i have my ideas of who it could be.
1 thing, fix your reply trigger though.

2008/06/15 11:52, Elaril:edited 1x
Like I said, haven't been playing for while. Wanted to try and play a little and see if I got the mume bug again. I should thank the idiot, don't feel like playing. Mandor was kind enough to help me out.

2008/06/15 12:12, Vandersell:
Must delete his account without much thinking ofcourse. I hope its done by now.

2008/06/15 12:30, Marissa:
Yeah, because he's not just going to make another one, is he?

2008/06/15 12:53, Holma:
kind of sad that they havent figured a way to ban this ip already, I mean how much tolerance for 'labbies' and 'all those other players' that play from the same lab can there be?

2008/06/15 12:54, Gwendolyn:
Hi Snakr!

2008/06/15 13:24, Thurge:
What's illegal?

2008/06/15 13:27, Andróg:
Abusing other people's settings is illegal?

2008/06/15 14:49, Fieldy:  edited 1x
There's a thing called ethics? Anyone heard of that?

Comfs on that happening. But welcome back to MUME!

2008/06/15 15:00, Breaux:
It's snakr, did the exact same thing to me and i got reimb.

2008/06/15 16:46, Zorts:
I don't recall that snakr is playing mume...
Atleast he would told me if he plays mume again..

2008/06/15 16:59, Fero:
yay if it only would be Snakr i would say he is only one with guts.
if i ever start again i will play like this :)

humpf not that i didn't :P

yay the sky is blue and the gras sis green and the memories are still wtf the drugs! ej

2008/06/15 17:36, Breaux:
he played javert for a while but got demoted? He also actionsnuck after people and stabbed after some 30 rooms when they stopped. Guy's a retard what's his rl life like? poor, ugly, and in youngsters prison? GJ laaaaaaaaaaaaddy

2008/06/15 17:40, Ortansia:
Can anyone explain me what happened exactly? I really don't get it

2008/06/15 17:54, Razoor:
Well i think management are rather stupid, they should always demote his chars insta as soon as people find out who he's playing. Also I'd consider banning large parts of estonia for about 2 weeks each time this happens, until people in his neighborhood start beating him up every time he cheats :)

2008/06/15 18:14, Andróg:
Razoor, by that logic large parts of Sweden should be regularly banned too. :P

2008/06/15 18:15, Fieldy:
Pffft. Just ban Razoor and everything will be ok!

2008/06/15 20:01, Razoor:edited 1x
Why do you say that Fieldy? Instead of only seeing the 'estonian', can't you admit that my reasoning has some merit?

I wouldn't care if Swedish people got banned either as long as swedish cheaters had their asses kicked on daily basis :)

2008/06/16 02:45, Thurge:
Oooohhh, ok. Had to read it a few times before I saw what was happening. What an ass.

Ortansia, Kalez is emoting rem all;drop all etc. and Elaril's client's picking up on it. Right?

2008/06/16 05:00, Menna:
I guess Elaril is using JMC. How to fix that reply action?

2008/06/16 06:57, Kenzu:
One way, don't have it. :) It works for me!

2008/06/16 09:34, Devastator:
It is pretty easy to avoid for example to change your seperate variable to something that is not used much.

2008/06/16 10:12, Belor:
Changing your separator character doesn't really fix the problem, it just 'hides' it.

To make your reply action much safer follow these steps:
1) Make the action match not only the text but also on the colour of the tells. (Not possible in all clients.)
2) Make the action match only one word before the 'tells you' part, this will also prevent it from triggering on tells from most mobs.
3) Assign the entire matched string to a variable and send it in its entirety in the reply alias.

Implementing at least two of the above steps should most likely make it impossible to abuse the action in this way. A worst case scenario is that you end up sending 'tell <garbage>' to the MUD, and since MUME doesn't accept any kind of command delimiter it would just result in the command failing.

2008/06/16 13:17, Devastator:
It makes it less likely to happen, though.

Of course fixing your triggers not to catch whole phrases is a very important thing. Also you can in most clients add the color codes, which is not too much work for most simple triggers like the reply.

2008/06/16 15:17, Gahar:
haha :D

2008/06/16 15:29, Timodeus:edited 3x
What happened here... some reply-tell-action gets triggered by an emote (say, tell, narrate, ...) as this:

Kalez ;rem all;drop all;Kala tells you 'hi'

You probably have an action as #action >+tell_reply &1 tells you &2={#print;something_else}
which may put the last person into an alias, so doing 'rep' becomes
'tell kala <your tell>' (or whatever).

What the client does when it receives something as '<anything> tells you 'anything else'' is this:
#print;$1

which, sadly, resolves to:
#print;rem all;drop all;Kala
(the last 'command', Kala, produced those argelbargles you saw).

See Nienor's post over at mume.org/forum for more info (as well as solutions!):
[submitted link]
So, now that you know about it... please fix your actions.

2008/06/16 15:34, Rayden:
It's also wise to use the beginning-of-line symbol '^'.

2008/06/16 15:41, Timodeus:
Yes, it is. But it does not change the basic problem. Since both
$1 tells you
and
^$1 tells you

become
#print;foo;bar;batz

if you receive a abusing tell. Your varible contains everything from the beginning of the line, thus the ^ doesn't matter in this example.

2008/06/16 15:57, Rayden:
If ppl would use more variables it (the beginning of line symbol) would do the trick. It's only one more line to add but it makes reply triggers much more safe. For example atrigger

#action >+reply ^$1m$2 tells you={#($reptar=$2);#print}

not only filters out tells that are not colored, but if something goes wrong and some stupid emote/narrate goes through in spammy colorful text, it only evaluates a variable '$reptar'; it doesn't send anything to the game...

2008/06/16 16:01, Rayden:
and you can always add correct #print syntax to make sure nothing is sent to the game.

#print('Replies go now to $reptar');

2008/06/16 17:38, Britney:
Comforts :(

2008/06/16 23:25, Sibin:
I'd have to agree with Devastator, changing your command delimiter would be the easiest and very effective way to prevent morons like this. Use something uncommon and simple for you to remember :)

2008/06/17 09:31, Sardotjen:
hi!

lol..

Advice:  Let the above textbox do the line-wrapping and do only use Return/Newline to end or start a new paragraph. That way your comments will look nice! If you use long text-strings without spaces ( >50 characters), they will be cut to a decent size and info will get lost.
