###This is just a fun little log about good timing and tribal pride###
###The call of the frozen North had finally come and I enlisted a trusted ally###
###We had seen our first summer come and go while legions of wargs and ###
###ugly trolls found their forever-after in the relief only death can provide.###
###With every death cry and cart load of loot we could feel the surging ###
###power of a tribe on a collision course with destiny to rule all of Arda.###
###The only question was when would our day come? When would we ###
###earn our place in the tribe through the glory of battlefield domination###
###With a cold winter breeze at our backs we trekked south to bring back###
###the rarest of loots. Indeed these southern lands were strange. ###
###The Men of the South used elevators rather then carts in their mines!!!###
###what weakness we thought, favoring comfort over functionality###
###the cart never fails why should we question it?###
###We inspected, but our senses were quickly perked by a strange noise###

You hear a high-pitched scream inside the shaft. Shortly after the scream stops the dull thud of
something hitting the
bottom echoes through the shaft

###Still unsure of this technology we trusted our abilities and headed to ###
###the back exit. Our inexperience (level 13 and 12) only increased our bloodlust###
###We didn't stop to consider what foul creature we would###
###encounter, but i secretly hoped it was one of those weak orcs from the east###

Very nice, I would like to see this log in the 'notables' section!

Those names are horrible. I hope someone enforces a namechange on you soon.

2010/01/12 13:18, Vikat:
I agree with Djinn

2010/01/12 16:34, Zlliilil:
glad you guys like the log! it was fun too write. As for the names what rule is broken?! its roleplayish cause it has the greatest letter in the alphabet 'Z' just like like Zorc. clearly unroleplayish names are often allowed i think you are just upset cause you cant hit what you cant type! Zaugs will prevail!

2010/01/12 22:23, Papi:

2010/01/13 16:13, Zlliilil:
Lol @ Papi. 1. oft quoted 'one mans terrorist...' ect. 2. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say someone who names their char Salvia is a stoner. if i didn't know what salvia was i wouldn't have commented or I would have looked it up on Erowid (which, if you dont know, is the best drug information site anywhere). 3. Child Please

2010/01/14 03:20, Belamir:
Names with 'repeating patterns of consonants or vowels' are listed as an example of 'inappropriate names' in the RULES NAMES help file. Yours certainly qualify.

There are certainly less 'roleplayish' names out there - I saw an unbelievably bad example of this a few days ago, but I forget what it was. It was a legend character, though. The problem I have with your names is entirely different - it is that they are clearly designed to be confusing enough to make it difficult to target one of you instead of the other. Your comment a few posts up confirms that this is the point of those names.

To me, that's an attempt to take advantage of (or maybe circumvent?) game mechanics, and I'm not very impressed.

Of course, it doesn't really matter, since you're not a very good player to begin with. At best, maybe you could force some targeting mistakes by 'better' players, and turn out a neat 'underdogs win' log. That could be quite enjoyable to read.

2010/01/14 13:39, Kalev:  edited 1x
I talked to Zlliilil about the name yesterday and he promised to come up with a new one soon.

2010/01/14 15:56, Zlliilil:
passive aggressive much Belamir? I want to hear how you measure 'good' player, not that i claim to be one just wondering what benchmarks you use?

More likely I choose the name to balance the 'unkown but everyone knows who does it' players who multi account, cross race, and use illegal triggers. So why arn't you busting those people Belamir? I mean they are even the 'good' players?

The problem I have with your analysis is that its difficult to quantify what your saying the problem is. Certainly long names are harder to type so are you cheating compared to characters like Win or Papi? I mean you intentionally made a longer name and also knew longer names are harder to type without mistake... Also that 'Z' letter is a real bitch to hit sometimes so players like Erkzgul probably have an illegal name. There is no way to compare or to quantify it, and while I have no problem being nice to the gods and agreeing to change my name when asked because they do alot of work that I have enjoyed (*tip* Kalev). I certainly do have a problem with game management masquerading on ER boards as the all knowing judge of players quality and gatekeeper to acceptable behavior. 'I'M NOT VERY IMPRESSED' BECAUSE YOU ENFORCE THESE RULES THAT HAVE ALMOST 0 EFFECT ON GAME PLAY BUT PRETEND AS IF IT IS A BIG DEAL. YOU WANT TO MAKE MUME A BETTER PLACE THEN BUILD NEW ZONES, ENFORCE REAL RULES, AND STOP ACTING LIKE SUCH A PRICK. YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO JUDGE PLAYERS SKILL OR WORTHINESS BUT OF COURSE YOU PROBABLY DONT CARE... Even if you dont, I still care if new players join (but i mean thats probably just cause I'm so bad that the only kills i get are on level 1s who wandered into slag) and when you make posts like that I cant help but think people who havn't been playing long will feel alienated disengaged from the community.

2010/01/14 16:18, Djinn:
Awww, is little Buz upset that his neat little pktrick didn't work?

Boo hoo.

You knew very well that name was certainly going to have an effect on gameplay, and it most certainly won't do anything for new players joining the game. You could always try a name like Znorzokhuruk though. Anything to give you that edge, right?

2010/01/14 16:46, Zlliilil:
Lol @Djinn - ya you know me always looking for the pk edge cause I spend so much time protecting all my elite mume eq and I only fight when I have the advantage??? you clearly dont know how I play, but sunning trolls for staff eating seems like your plan (see your profile) so lets compare who is the bigger whiner.

Djinn doesn't even log his Maia to enforce the name change himself (after complaining about it) but rather just 'hopes' someone does it. In Belamir's immortal words, 'of course, it doesn't really matter, since your not a very good' Maia in the first place. Do you see how outrageous you guys are?

i guess im not surprised another member of mume management inserts their own valueless commentary. New rule to help the management out, if you cheat please post a log of it on ER that way they can bust you and feel good about themselves. Look this is just so sad, I create a character with an apparently illegal name, post a fun log and people want the name changed, I agree to change the name, and yet and yet the big boys of management get all passive aggressive and crying.

2010/01/14 18:00, Peapend:
If I could spell my characters name, I would post on that one instead of this. Honestly though I din't think the name issue would effect peoples triggers, and since dijinn and belamir both suck at PK i don't understand why you guys care.

Oh and your guy's names are so creative it just inspires me to RP.

Of course I suck at PK. I've never claimed otherwise. Do you really 'hang your hat' on this game to such an extent that you get upset when someone else points out that you're a mediocre player as well?

I'd hope your names wouldn't affect people's triggers. They shouldn't be using triggers in PK.

There's absolutely nothing 'difficult to quantify' about my problem with your names. You made it very clear that the names were designed to make it hard for people to target you.

Who cares about roleplay? I specifically wrote in my last response that this wasn't an issue about roleplaying, it was an issue about trying to gain a cheap advantage in PK.

Djinn enforcing a name change himself? He's one step above a boardreader. Do you have any idea how the Maiar structure works?

2010/01/14 20:29, Zlliilil:
actually i dont know how it works, i would be curious though.

And i dont mind being called a mediocre player i sort of relish it, just it was uncalled for jab that doesn't really have any effect on the issue in question. I thought we made it clear that this was the point, hence Peapends equally unfounded comment that you guys suck in pk. Its not a question of whether its true or not, only the prudence in being a jerk for no reason.

The cats out of the bag, we obviously 'confessed' to making the names for a competitive advantage but you cant be so dull as to not understand the bright line problem in this rule (especially when you take RP considerations out) (we are clearly not arguing we should keep the names). imagine a world were there was only one of us with the silly name and that person wasn't as upfront as we are. Or we didn't post the log and quietly got to legend... but even these bright-line problems with the rule isn't the problem. the whole point is enforcement sucks and this is like busting someone for smoking a joint when there is a crack house down the street.

But I dont want to get too distracted, the management does a really good job for 99% of what they do and I have alot of appreciation for the work you guys do, I certainly have been playing long enough to understand that. just no reason to get passive aggressive when there is misunderstanding/silliness/or criticism, it distracts for your goal, which should be setting standards and enforcing rules. Sure when I post about how much I rock, or how much someone sucks or even commenting on what happens in a log then fair game, its not the comment i had a problem with just the timing. I even love the trash talk! so bring it and we can battle out the mediocre American Mume players, it will be like watching the MLS!

2010/01/14 23:55, Belamir:
The point about you being mediocre players was not to 'take a jab' at you. It was to point out, as I actually explicitly said, that the names don't end up being a big issue because it's unlikely you'd manage to do THAT much with your 'advantage.'

Think about it in terms of action use on different link speeds. A slower link is still going to gain an advantage (usually), but that advantage is unlikely to do more than level out the playing field a bit. Action use on one of the fastest links, on the other hand, can be a significant issue.

Does that make sense?

2010/01/15 00:14, Zlliilil:
Ya that makes sense, just that its irrelevant to the rules b/c the rules dont (and shouldn't) have anythign to do with how good/bad a player you are or how good/bad link you have.

2010/01/15 01:42, Peapend:
K I am going to name my new character belemir in honor of you.

Asshat.

2010/01/15 08:41, Djinn:
Hahaha, what a bunch of drama for changing a clearly abusive name, jesus christ. Are you guys so delusional that you don't see what's wrong with those names, or do you simply refuse to admit it?

I'll bite though. Just once.

- You don't have to play for max eq to want an edge in pk. Why else would you make those names anyway. Look at Snakr, he wanted an edge in pk too by cheating, but I doubt he wanted to run around in full shining metal. He just wanted to be better.

- Do I honestly have to change my profile? Are you not getting the fact that it's a joke? Intentionally sunripping is something I have never done, ask any troll around. It was a joke aimed at how berserk Gray, which is an old player, used to go when someone looted his staff.

- If we compare who's the bigger whiner, I'm sure you'll end up losing, because I never whine :p. I hardly play things fair with my level 60 superchars and all, but I never whine at people after they have lured me into a trap, pretending to have a solo fight, with 5 others waiting inside. If I die like that, I shrug and log off.

- I can't enforce a namechange, or I would have done it myself, don't worry. Ainur hierarchy only grants Cartographers certain rights, and namechanging is a right reserved only to the higher ranks. I also didn't 'hope' someone does it. I had such a strong dislike for how you two made your chars that I contacted those in the hierarchy that could change the names, and kindly ask them to enforce the naming policy, which you should have read, before creating the chars.

- I got all 'passive aggressive' (with the one line comment right there) in your face BEFORE you got your name forcibly changed. What's the point of complaining about it afterwards. I don't bitch. I either don't like something and leave it be, or I do something about it.

- You can try to stay quiet with your next char, but if you're any good a pker, the names will get noticed and you'll get a namechange then. If you read the naming policy, you'll see that being forced a namechange, costs you levels the further you go on.

Woh, look at the length of that post. In your face, Elestir!

Oh, and name your char Djonn, in honour of me, please :p.

2010/01/15 15:45, Zlliilil:
Djinn says: 'Are you guys so delusional that you don't see what's wrong with those names, or do you simply refuse to admit it? '

maybe delusional but not about this...did you read 'The cats out of the bag, we obviously 'confessed' to making the names for a competitive advantage'...

Not much else to respond to there but my favorite part of your post was 'I got all 'passive aggressive' (with the one line comment right there) in your face BEFORE you got your name forcibly changed.' No the passive aggressive part was 'Awww, is little Buz upset that his neat little pktrick didn't work?' and other posts which came after both Kalev's and my post indicating the name is going to change.

And heads up, when i start looking for every 'edge' i can get, the first thing i will do is get a client and mapper :P rather then playing on basically telnet.

But as a serious question, I was told that players who are already legend or known then name changes arn't enforced? Otherwise there is at least 50 legends playing with illegal names? If what your saying is true then it proves the absurdity of enforcing it against us because I was under the impression that those high levels with bad names were basically off the table. But any clarification would be great?

2010/01/15 16:02, Djinn:
Everybody in this thread has tried to explain it to you, but you're in such a kiddyrage that you're failing to see it.

The naming policy has gotten a lot more lenient over the years, due to the declining playerbase. Names who are only moderately bad, like Gamli the dwarf and Lagolas the elf can be accepted, but names obviously designed for abuse, like yours, are not.

So what, you do something bad, but only you can say something about it? Everybody else who makes a comment on it after that is passive aggressive now? What are you, eight?

And admitting it after strongly denying it doesn't make you look very good :). Good luck with the client and mapper!

2010/01/15 16:45, Peapend:
Just for the record, only belastar and you tried to explain it to us. Also notice the length of my responses vers your essays on the subject. Thats how much I care, kiddyrage I guess makes me not bother to even read the dribble you write.

And again

asshats.

Hellokitty the Silicon Titty

Need I say more?

2010/01/16 04:53, Belamir:
I think that's the one I mentioned in one of my previous posts, Erkzgul (the 'really bad name' that I couldn't remember). But again, while it's an unbelievably non-roleplayish name, it's not an abusive one (and therefore has no relevance to this discussion).

Buz, I don't understand your response to my last post.

Why so angry, Peapend?

2010/01/16 20:48, Bus:
my long post was directed toward Djinn's post, the shorter one was just saying that your point about how us sucking means it hurts other people is logical, but irrelevant to the discussion because rules enforcement doesn't depend on that, similar to how bad but not abusive names are not relevant either. It being out of place in the context of the previous discussion is what I found to be bothersome because it indicated a high level of malice. Like we are talking about whether a name is precluded by the rules and you throw in a little and 'btw you suck'.

2010/01/17 03:34, Belamir:
Not sure how to respond to that.

'...the shorter one was just saying that your point about how us sucking means it hurts other people is logical...'

This is nonsense and has nothing to do with a single thing I've written.

Why So Serious?

Zlliilil's new name is now Zog.
Zlliliil will get a namechange when I manage to talk to him in game.

P.S. I needed to copy-paste the names to get them right.

2010/01/30 02:56, Xorz:
sooo label *orc a, label 2.*orc b that confusing? or am i missing the point...
